Gong & Yoga

What is the sound journey or the gong bath?

Relax, it’s time for a Gong bath.
Estrella invites you on a unique sound journey where vibrations “massage” your body and deeply relax your mind. Using techniques such as Gong, Koshis, drum, and heart bowl, she helps you achieve a state of harmony and well-being.

Our body is composed of about 75% water, and the sound vibrations of the Gong influence both the air and the water within us. This “sound massage” promotes inner calm and helps balance the body at a cellular level.

Whether you’re looking for deep relaxation, a moment to feel good, or a way to let go of daily stress, the Gong is a powerful tool for nurturing both body and mind. Many people also find it enhances their sense of intuition and fosters a peaceful state of mind.

The Gong has been played for thousands of years across Asia and Mesopotamia. Historically, it was a symbol of power and royalty. Today, it is increasingly embraced in homes, yoga studios, and well-being centers worldwide.

Special thanks to Don Conreaux and Vikrampal for their teachings and inspiration, which have greatly enriched my journey with the Gong.

Before a Gong bath session, we perform short, simple exercises of breathing, meditation, yoga, or Tai Chi to prepare the body and mind.

Note: Gong sessions do not replace medical treatments or psychological therapies but serve as a complementary tool to traditional medicine for well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t have to do anything, just lie comfortably on a yoga mat. The natural vibrations of the gong create a global sound massage within the body.

The gong bath works on the physical, energetic, emotional and spiritual bodies. The vibrations of the Gong often act on areas of tension in the body. You will leave the bath feeling calm and relaxed. After a session, it is advisable to hydrate well by drinking water or herbal tea.

The experience is unique to each of us and different for each Gong bath. The vibrations of the gong often cause our brain to disconnect from the mind and enter a calmer state of consciousness. Some of the vibrations are not perceived by the ear, but act on the body. Relaxed or free from tension, some people develop their intuition, others access a unique sound journey.

There is no specific time of the day when the Gong is played softly: in the morning, it helps to start the day relaxed. At midday, the Gong allows you to be more concentrated and efficient in your work. In the evening, it relieves tensions accumulated during the day and promotes a peaceful sleep.

The gong bath develops the circulation of energy. A sound treatment session is not a substitute for medical treatment, but a complement. In case of doubt, it is necessary to seek the advice of your doctor. It is contraindicated for people with epilepsy, for people with a pacemaker and for women who are less than 3 months pregnant.

A summary of the classical teaching of Sivananda Yoga:

1. Appropriate exercises (Asanas): improve the flexibility of joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They stimulate circulation, massage the internal organs and activate their functioning. A flexible and strong spine intensifies blood circulation and helps to have a performing and youthful body.

2. Correct breathing (Pranayama): connects the body to its battery, the solar plexus, where enormous energy reserves are stored. Through deep, conscious breathing, we have more energy reserves in everyday life – stress and many illnesses (eg depression) can thus be overcome.

3. The correct relaxation (Savasana): when the body and the mind are always overstretched, they become less efficient. A few minutes of physical, mental and spiritual relaxation reduce worry and exhaustion more effectively than several hours of restless sleep.

4. Healthy food: is simple, natural and healthy, easy to digest and absorb. It consists of recommended but not imposed vegetarian foods, which have the best effects on the body and the mind, while weighing as little as possible on our environment and other species and living beings.

5. Positive thinking and meditation (Vedanta and Dhyana): are the keystones of mental peace. Through mind control, negative thought waves are dissolved, allowing one to experience deep inner peace.
And a phrase from the Baghavagita: the fruit of selfless action. Doing your best brings inner peace, without expecting the fruits of your actions.

Kapalabhati is used to purify the lungs. By pushing the air out, all the stale air is removed from the lungs, creating space to take in fresh oxygen-enriched air. A wonderful exercise to gain vitality.
